The Torch Festival
Place: ethnic groups in southwestern China, such as the Yi, Bai, Hani, Lisu, Naxi, Pumi and Lahu 

in early June of the lunar calendar or on the 24th or 25th of the month, with three days of celebrations. 

There are 25 ethnic minorities in Yunnan Province.They all have their own culture and conventions.So,there are many folk festivals. The Torch Festival is one of the unique festivals celebrated by the Yi people.The ancestors of Yi worship the fire for the fire have power to kill insects, drive away evils and protect crop.

The Torch Festival last three days. People will kill sheep and prepare meat and wine to worship the ancestors.When night falls, people build the altar at the place where the elders in the village selected,using the traditional way to make fire and the Bimo (Yi folk priest) chanting sacrificial fire.After that,people will hold the torches and walk around the fields and houses.Young men and women sing and dance over the night around the big torches.

There are many other activities like great parties, wrestling, arrow shooting and so on.All the rituals are performed to pray for a harvest in the next year.
