World’s First Underground Hotel Opened in Shanghai
The world’s first underground hotel, InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, recently opened to the public on November 15, 2018. Taking 10 years and costing 2 billion yuan to complete, the 88-meter-deep hotel is located in Songjiang, around 35 km southwest of Shanghai. Built inside a quarry, the hotel has 336 rooms on 18 floors. Sixteen of the floors are underground, with the lowest two submerged inside a aquarium in which guests can watch fish swim by. Prices for the suites range from 3,400 to 3,800 yuan per night.
