Tiger-Head Shoes Handcrafted in N China Hebei
Nov 07, 2017 marks the day of "Winter Begins" of the 24 solar terms, which sounds the bugle of winter days setting in. After this day, locals in Sanbeizhang Village of Renxian County, North China's Hebei Province, start to handcraft tiger-head shoes. It is a local custom to dress children with tiger-head shoes in a hope that they will thrive as robust and dynamic as tigers which are regarded as auspicious in Chinese culture. The shoes are handcrafted by stitching up pieces in bright green, red and yellow, with delicate embroidery tiger patterns in the head and upper part of the shoes.
