Shangri-La Weather and Climate

Shangri-La is located 3,300 meters above sea level and has a plateau climate. Meaning the weather of Shangri-La is always varied and unsettled. So no matter when you decide to go, you should be prepared to take some warm clothes as weather can vary between day and night.


The temperatures during spring are between 5°C -20°C and this is when Shangri-La begins to come into full bloom. Visiting Shangri-La during spring is one of the most beautiful sights as the colorful blooms and green scenery is one of the most magical experiences ever.


Summer is the season with the highest temperature and is also the rainy season, temperature reaches between 15°C - 30°C. Summer at Shangri-La is one of the most magnificent times to visit. However, the only downside is that summer is the rain season for Shangri-La.


Autumn is the harvest season and the scenery is the most beautiful, the temperature is about 5°C - 30 °C. During the summer season Shangri-La is like a fantasy land with the brightly colored leaves turning red and yellow due to fall.


Winter is the season with the lowest temperature and sometimes it has snow, the temperature is between 0°C - 20°C.

Best Season to Visit Shangri-La

The best time to visit is March to August. During this period, the weather is favorable and the wild flowers are in bloom here and there. September or October is also a favorable month. This is fall harvest time and the entire plateau becomes a golden world. Warm clothes should be brought along due to the large temperature difference between night and day.
