Henan Province, with Yu for short and Zhengzhou as the capital, lies in the central east part of China with a large area of 167,000 square kilometers. Henan Province is adjacent to Shanxi and Hebei to the north, Shandong and Anhui to the east, Shaanxi to the west and Hubei to the south. It lies in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River.

Geography and climate

The general geography trend of Henan is high in the west and low in the east. Taihang Mountains, Funiu Mountains, Tongbai Mountains and Dabie Mountains stand in three directions of north, west and north in the shape of a half ring, while the central and eastern part of Henan are mostly lie within North China Plain, and Nanyang Basin in the southeastern part. Henan is a province with rich water resources as it stretches across four drainages of the Yellow River, Huai River, Hai River and the Yangtze River.

Climate in Henan belongs to humid subtropical in the south and humid continental in the north with distinctive four seasons of hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters.
