Hainan Province, short for Qiong with the capital of Hiakou, is located in the southern end of China. Hainan Island is the second largest island in China. Administrative regions of Hainan Province include Hainan Island, Xisha archipelago and Nansha archipelago. The whole province of Hainan covers a land area of 35,000 square kilometers and a sea area of 2,000,000 square kilometers.

Hainan is separated from the Leizhou Peninsular of Guangdong Province in the north by Qiongzhou Strait, facing Vietnam in the west across Beibu Gulf and Taiwan across South China Sea.
